I bought 2 pieces of LR 2 days ago just for the bright peach/pink cora algea and I have changed 50% of water 2 times in the 2 days and the amm is off the chart and the nitrites are above 1. I know it must cure in the holding tank, but now the peach/pink is turning a bright green. How can I save the very few patches left. It was covered 2 days ago. The LFS did tell me he just got the rock that day, but I didn't know it would die like this. I scrubbed the rock before curing, but it didn't help. I have made sure the Cal stays up, but what else can I do? I want this to spread on my other rocks so bad! It is beautiful.

Not sure about this algea but what type of lighting do you have over it during the curing process? What are your calcium levels and alkalinity? Maintaining any good chemistry during a cycle is going to be next to impossible but you will need to do as many water changes as possible and try to bring the ammonia down.

alk is normal, ph is normal, but the cal I can't seem to maintain much higher than 350. I keep adding b-ionic with each change and some kent liquid cal but it keeps dropping. Curing is much harder than just having the whole show tank! Any suggestions?
The lighting is regular florescent. Should I just take the small spike and throw it in the show tank? It stinks really bad since I brought it home!

If it stinks, it's a bad idea to put it into the main tank.

I wouldn't worry too much about losing all the coralline. It can come back pretty quickly.

Does your alkalinity test give numbers? If it's too high, the Ca won't be able to go up. If the alk is OK (below 4.5), then maybe your magnesium is too low. That can also keep Ca from going up. Nonetheless, 350 is probably OK.
