please help sex my rams

Star and DD - some interesting questions for you both. First, DD you mentioned 'White rams', is this a color morph you've heard about before or did you just make up that name? Star - I believe that the veil rams are long finned rams, they have longer tails.

I'm asking because my last ram spawn is finally coloring up and pairing. Of these 50 or so fish, I have around 10 males which are not exhibiting typical ram colors. They do not have any black splotch, yet are not gold all over. On top of these 2 things, they have the dark eye bands and spiky black dorsal fins. They also have dark ventral fins. (Thats the bottom fin, yes?). So far they are fairly light colored and have a great shaped body with the gold coloring in front and I can't tell what color will be in the back half. They also have that great red color in their fins...

I really like the look of these rams but was planning to sell them off at a swap meet next weekend. Now that I think about it though, perhaps I should keep a few with these colors. It is interesting to me that there are no females with this coloring. Star - ever had these come out of any of your spawns? Am I on my way to having a line bred gold ram? (Their parents are the same parents I've had for other spawns, this time however, this flukie color appeared...)

Any thoughts?

hey Cathy..... good question. I wonder if I have just given the rams a new name for the species :D The reason I said "white ram" is because it has no color or should I say very little color, yet it's not appearing to be a golden ram to me and it doesn't seem to be an albino because it does exhibit some color.

Update:

Today they are doing very well. I added java moss to the tank. Enough to almost totally cover the gravel. Trimmed my anacharis and replanted the clippings. The rams are starting to become more comfortable with their environment, and are coming up off the bottom now to roam about. 1 of their guppy tankmates is currently having babies so fry are all over the place, and the rams are having a feast. Which is good because they are a little underweight. So far there is absolutely so aggression, other than guppy fry being eaten. Although I did save 1 fry, I don't know why but this particular one stood out to me and I just had this feeling that I should save it. The rest are fair game.

Cathy,
none from any of my spawns...wish I was closer to you as the wife just approved another tank for my collection..LOL I would have been very interested in some of these...morphs..
I do believe these in this post may be young or possibly a morph,..the long fins I've seen..but Cathy I believe you are correct..these may not be the veiled versions..I saw them at a LFS here labeled angel rams.

currently I am concentrating my breeding efforts in wild peruvin angels..I believe I have a pair forming up both dominant ..and very large.

DD I like the 'White" ram name
