ok it seems that i got the levels under control again! he seems to be doing a lot better and almost all of the ich except for about five parasites seem to remain on the fish. my oscar is acting normal again and ill check on him bright and early in the morning. thanks for your help everyone. one last question. what usually helps to keep the balances normal in a tank besides adding chemicals all the time? it may be a vague question, but i was wondering how to keep my nitrates, nitrates and so on and so forth down normally...
On the contrary, adding chemicals will ultimately make your water unstable. Nothing is better in a non planted aquarium than regualar water changes and tank cleaning. Water changes can vary from 50% to 30% on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

and then things turn bad again..........

Im still changing water very often an using salt and the temp it 86 right now and the levels are all perfect (finally) thanks in advance

If your nitrite is still up it could possibly be nitrite poisoning, a good sign is fish gasping at the surface. Nitrite poisoning stops oxygen from being taken up by the hemoglobin cells , so what is happens to your fish is they literally suffocate due to lack of oxygen. Do twice daily 60% water changes if once daily is not bringing the nitrite down, also keep the salt up b/c this helps stop the effects of nitrite poisoning.
