moved to a 10 gal!!! If you were closer I would give you a 20gal for free! A 10 is sad. My 7yo comet is in a 330gal and I still feel thats its not enough for her.

By all means I would try to get a 55 gallon aquarium for that goldfish, it woul be much more happy in the aquarium.
I think that even though a bigger tank is needed, hay, give them cudos for at least taking care of that fish for as long as they did, and giving it at least some more room. Goodness, I am proud of them for at least trying. I have seen people on these forums that don't give a flip and won't try to anything, and then wonder why their fish die.
I agree that the fish needs a bigger home, 55gal at least, but as long as you are trying to improve his home, that's good. I would start saving some $ for a Craigslist 55 or larger and maybe a new friend, after it's quarantined! Since he has lived alone for so long, a good, long QT would be a very smart idea.
Actually, if you watch CL for awhile, you will find free 55s and items, so that is even better!
