I feel so horrible...I have some anole eggs that I'm trying to hatch...one looks very good, but the other was turning brown and spotting..so I thought it had died. STUPIDLY, I tried opening it and when I did a baby came out. It has been about 3 weeks since I found them. He looked like he was trying to breath and he even opened his eyes. I'm SOO scared that I may have possibly helped in ending his life. Is there any possibility that if I put him back in the moss he might make it? I feel just awful...

Depends what kind of anoles you got but usually hatch dates for anoles are around 30 to 50 days. Just keep a eye on it and see. Do you see it trying to walk at all?

No, it still looked like it was absorbing yolk...I don't think it made it/ is going to make it. I don't want to bother it too much.

It is either a brown or green anole.

Its a premature baby then. I would suggest to put it down instead of it suffering. If it still has a big yolk sac attach then it will be hard for that little guy to survive outside the egg.

It might survive depending on how far along it has developed. I would advice keeping the environment as steril as possible. You can try keeping it warm inside a tuperware contianer with some air holes poked into it. It needs to stay moist so the yoke doesn't dry up. Place the baby on a moist paper towl and it may contiue to absorb it's egg yoke and survive. Good luck.

Sadly, he didn't make it. I feel horrible.

Don't hurt yourself too bad. Now you know to let the eggs sit for a little while longer. In the future you can candle the eggs. All you have to do is hold the egg up to a small pen flashlight. If the egg is early in development you can tell it's fertilized if you see red veins throughout the egg. If it's farther along you should see a dark shape inside the egg. If the egg has been pure yellow inside for over a week, it probably isn't fertilized.
Good luck with the second egg. :)
