I have a 55g with 2 catsharks and now 12 convicts as I just unplanted cleaned and gave away about 3 doz convicts. now my question is. Is there any fish that I could use for population control of the convicts they keep my 2- 3" cats in a small section of the tank cause they are protective of there area. it gets worse when they keep breeding, now I like them both but is there a fish I could put in there to control the convict population without killing all of them or harming the catfish?

thanks for any help

you would have to get other extremely territorial cichlids

i do think you are a little overstocked though, 12 cons in a 55gal? cons get up to 4-6 inches, and what kind of cat-sharks do you have?

i have a 59gal(custom) with two firemouths 1 black con and 1 pink con(male and female), and the firemouths seem to keep them under control, they have some territorial disputes, but neither cause any serious damage, firs are somewhat peaceful. but then they have to defend, they will

i've never heard of a "fresh water" catshark ... which fish do you have? most catshark species are deepwater slope sharks. none is oceanic, and most occur on or near the bottom, though some deepwater slope species range well above the substrate. catsharks occur in coastal marine waters, from the intertidal to the outer shelf and down the slopes to depths of over 6,600 t. None occurs in fresh water.

If you only have 12 convicts then it seems that the cats are helping. My convicts have several hundred fry at a time it seems.
