my fish has lost both it's eyes, it is a fancy goldfish ( i think ), black and used to have huge eyes, what's wrong and can i do anything to help it?, any advice would make me happy, thanks

Lets start with what is the tank size?

Other fish and how many?

Water parameters from a good liquid test kit, ammonia/nitrites/nitrates and pH?

ok my tank is 3ft, there is one goldfish, two other fancy goldfish, and another fish i was given by a friend i don't know what it is, and i don't know about those test, i do have filter and use water purifer and temp is 21 degrees

Okay, lets ignore any issues over tank size and stocking for now.

The water parameters are very important. The fish wastes and left over food cause toxic conditions for your fish. Much like if you left your garbage in your house.

Regular water changes help alleviate these issues. The test kit helps you determine how bad things are.

How often do you do water changes?

i change the water once a month, sometimes more often if it looks dirty

Use the conversions tab at top of the page to determine how many gallons your tank is.

At a minimum, you should be doing 30-50% water changes weekly.

Gold fish are extremely messy fish and heavy polluters.

How long have they been in this tank with the infrequent water changes?

What is your filtration?

15 gallon, i have had them for about 6 months, filtration?, i'm not sure what that means i have set of sponges for filters, there is four sponges, i got them with the tank also i have a pump and a heater.

rbishop, I would think that losing both of his eyes could mean aggression, not water conditions, although good conditions will keep further infection away, I am wondering if these has been some aggression on your fish. based on your descriptions, I think you have a black moore goldfish, and since they do have bulging eyes, maybe it was a great target for some of the other goldfish. Since goldfish are pretty agressive. They tend to pick on eachother. sometimes relentlessly on one particular fish. I would reccomend quarantining it if you have one. If not, you should get a quarantine tank to keep any sick or injured fish in.
