Hello everybody, I picked this guy up from a lfs listed as a freshwater lobster, supposedly gets 6" in length, it is currently about 4.5". I have him in a 20g long by himself with very good filtration. The only thing is I don't know what kind it is. If anyone can ID him that would be great.

I can't see the pics, but I'd be interested to know more about it. My guess would be that it is a crawfish. There is a species of crawfish that is commonly refered to as "langostino lobster". Could that be it? Can you see this pic?

Or is it blue? Apparently, there is a freshwater lobster

As far as I know, there's no such thing as a freshwater lobster, but crayfish are often sold under name of "lobster" because of their similarity. Which species that one is, I'm not sure.

It's a white Procambarus clarkii. I've got one, too. I have 2 P.clarkiis now and one on it's way here this week, I love em'. They're real outgoing compared to my other crays, eat anything & are always out and about.

Thanks everyone! Yeah he is really active, and a surprisingly good swimmer also, looks like a scaled up version of an amano shrimp floating across the tank.

they have one of these at my LFS labeled as a white llobster, and its like $35 which is outrageous.

I just thought I would point out that "langostino" or squat lobsters are strictly saltwater species. Petstore "freshwater lobsters" are always crayfish.
