looks like compact hygro (hygro corymbosa)

It came with no rootes, just a cut stem, is that how they are sold? Do you cut the stem when you plant it in the tank?

if it is the compact hygro (hard to tell since the leaves are very pale) then it will eventually develop roots. Most likely what you have is just either a side shoot or the top of the plant thats been trimmed. Give it a few days for the roots to kick in
