Please Read 2 Fish Dead And One Real Lethargic

I am on vacation so I will check with him on Monday....But I do know he had no fish when I got it. I think they did die... When I got the tank I did soak the gravel in a hot water soapy solution for several hours and then flushed completely until all soap was gone.... Yes I found out afterward that soap was not good... But made sure it was all gone... Used a soap and baking soda mixture to clean tank rinse completely until all residue was gone.....

Tank has been going for a little over 2 months i think or close too it.

Just looked at fish this morning I lost a Albino Tiger Barb.... these fish have seemed fine the only thing I would consider abnormal is that they have been hiding out more behind this big center rock that bows out and has a big cavity they can swin into....

Ever since Ich arrived the tank has been going down hill but the parameters have been pretty much the same.. Unless the test kit I have is bad... But that shoud not be the case... I just bought it... I will look for an expiration date on it.

FYI other than the gravel and bio wheels (which thinking about it I probabl should have replaced and done a fishless cycle but I was a stupid newbie and didnt read anything before I got started) everythin else is new in the tank.... I.E. Decorations, bubblers. I did clean all the air line and UGF air tubes and grate and filter intake tube and filter box replace the two square filter but not the wheels...Grrrrrrr

When was your last wc?
Did you add the salt very gradually, as per the article?
Hm.... I think it would be a good idea to do another water change, it wont hurt, at any rate... so sorry for your tank troubles! So what do you have left in the tank?

FWIW copper cannot be removed from the tank no matter what you do. It bonds molecularily with the silicone and it is very toxic. Contact this guy and see what he used in the tank, kay? And how and why his fish all died.

Hello! I haven't been on here in a while. I am so very sorry about your fish! Isn't it frustrating beyond belief. I got sooooooooooo aggravated, even though it did me absolutely NO GOOD. I did a water change daily and replaced my salts. I don't know what anyone else will tell ya. It worked for me. How many fish do you have left now???? I sure wish I could be of more help to ya. Good Luck :hang: Do whatever Roan says. She is the one who mainly helped me, she knows what she's talking about. :thm:

I talked to the guy I got the fish from yes His fish died for no apparent reason and he did not use anything in his tank except for stress zyme and Prime Dechlor... I really wish I would have found this site and talked to people before I started this tank.. So my question is this

Can I change out my bio wheels if so what can I use to promote the good bacteria growth on the wheels I also am going to change out the gravel pretty much everything that was old. I have some things I bought new how should I clean them? A 1:10 bleach water ratio?

I have 5 fish left right now
1 Chocolate Pleco
2 Mollies
1 Bala
1 Rainbow Shark

When I bought my tank, everything I put in there was new with the exception of some seashells and some plants from my sister's tank. I just simply put the rocks in my strainer and rinsed them well with warm water until the water was clear and there wasn't any dust from the rocks left. I only wiped my tank out with papertowels and water. I was afraid to use anything else. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

I have used bleach in a low ratio in one of my tanks I got used. It is a 75G I splashed a couple of "glugs" of bleach in and filled the tank about 1/3 of the way, so a very mild bleach solution. Scrubbed everything down with a new rag (never been used with other chemicals) then rinsed with clear water once, then filled and used about a quadruple dose of dechlorinator, then drained, then filled with the huge dose of dechlorinator again. Bleach is concentrated chlorine so the dechlor will neutralize anything left. When I filled the tank a final time I added extra dechlor once again just to be safe as I had also soaked all my rocks in bleach too and wanted to make sure there was none remaining. Fish are all fine except for a parasite that the new gold gouramis brought in with them - Dang it! :)
