I was going to buy 40 lbs. of cured live rock today, but I don't know if I should anymore... The dead rock that is in my tank is obviously curing... My ammonia is at 1.0ppm nitrites 1.0 nitrates 20ppm... If I add the new cured live rock will it kill the growth on it??? I don't know what to do.... Should I go buy the LR or just let the stuff in my tank cure...It came from a tank that had been drained for 6 months
 
Definitely should help the cycle, since it's live rock, their are bacterium in it that will help speed up the cycling process.
 
Agreed... Adding some cured LR will help with the cycle, since you'll be introducing more bacteria.

You might lose some of the coralline algae, but it will recover in time.
 
Well, I went ahead and bought the LR from this guy... It is kinda wierd looking... It is orange rock kinda looks like spider webs... Is it Fiji? anyways I took out the other rock so now I have about 60 lbs of CLR in my 55... Oh and 30 lbs of live sand...
 
By the way you might want to keep a closer eye on your ammonia if they just drained the tank there might be all sorts of critters on and in the rock. I'd try to keep my ammonia somewhere around 1 max so that you don't nuke all of your inverts. If you can't or don't want to add some fully cured l.r. ,with critters after your cycle is done.
 
No, the CLR I just bought is from a fully running and setup tank... Has been for years... The rock I had in my tank was from a tank that was drained about 6 months ago... Also the rock does look like honeycombs... Slightly red to orange in color...
 
Oh, sorry my mistake then the added bacteria will help the sitution.
