pleco,algae eater for africian cichlids tank

I have a 55 gal african cichlid tank that has 3 yellow labs, 3 peacocks, and one electric blue. I need to put a pleco or something that eats algae in it. What would do best in a cichlid tank? Any ideas would be great to what will keep the algae away. :help2:

A bristlenose plec would work, although I do not suggest adding stock to control algae.

What's the lighting like? Any ideas on what type of algae?

Well, as said, a BN pleco may be the best option; but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't due to the aggression of the Malawi cichlids. For me it worked for around 10 months, until the mbunas decided to beat the pleco and finally to kill him. Now, I think I will never add a pleco again with those guys in the tank.

I have colormax coralife 24inch, 20 watts x2 flourescent daylight lamps freshwater with color-enhancing phosphors. I have them on at least 6 hours a day

i have heard and had bad luck with cichlids taking the eyes out of plecos i wouldnt do it

get use to a tooth brush and a algae scraper

Certain Mbuna relish algae, i would go with a small group of Mbuna that will co-exist with your current stock and let the fish fast 3 to 4 days and the algae will be cleared up aye..

I put my female back in the cichlid tank. So far every thing's going alright. If I see them picking on her I'll take her back out. I have other tanks that she can go into and stay safe.
