So here's my story (disclaimer, you can probably skip all this to my question, which is down below):
I started this hobby with a betta my gf bought me. I then bought a bigger tank and an ADF. Then I bought another ADF from Petco (this would turn out to be a major mistake and I will never buy fish from them again).
Unfortunately my two poor ADF's died several months ago from what I believed to be CF (Chytrid Fungus) - all the symptoms seemed to match. I'm pretty sure the guy I bought from Petco had to fungus when I brought him home - unfortunately the concept of quarantining fish before adding them to the tank was a foreign concept to me at this point.
Because the fungus is so hard to get rid of (requires either drying of the tank for a couple days or cleaning with bleach or boiling everything in the tank - which I couldn't do since I had the betta and I think a couple neons at this point), and because I didn't know of a reliable source to get healthy frogs, I decided against getting more ADF's (despite my how much I enjoyed having them - so funny to watch).
So I went on with my aquarium venture. I now have a 15 gallon tank with the betta, handful of neons, and my little pleco (who will outgrow the tank I know, but I've got time - seems like if I don't put this in every one of my posts that mentions the pleco I get ppl jumping on me for it).
Because I've replaced everything - tank, ornaments, etc. - and because it's been several months since the frogs died (from what I understand, CF lives off something in the frog's skin - something fish don't have - and so whatever CF is in the tank dies after a couple of months if there is nothing for it to feed off of, i.e. the frogs or other amphibians) I've been thinking about getting a couple more ADFs somewhere down the road (want to make sure tank is all set up and stable before I do this - won't be for another couple months probably). I know of a woman who breeds them, so I know I can get healthy animals.
My question is this, though:
How will the frogs and the pleco get along. I've never seen very much aggression out of the pleco, but he will chase the neons away if they get too close to his algae wafers (they seem to like those things too). Otherwise, he's not territorial in any sense. I actually see the pleco and the betta hanging out together under a piece of driftwood all the time. However, I'm concerned that if the dwarf frogs become interested in the pleco's food, or if he becomes interested in their food (because I do know that pleco's will eat things like frozen krill, bloodworms, etc.) then there might be an issue.
If I were to set up feeding areas at opposite ends of the tank do you think they might leave each other alone? Has anyone tried to house these two critters together?
If it's not going to work out that's fine. I just want to make sure before I do anything. Don't want any more poor animals dying due to my ignorance :headshake2:
