I have a small albino pleco (don't know the exact type but LFS said it would not get larger than 3-4 inches) that I have NEVER seen eat in the 3 days I have had him. I feed flakes and the occasional hikari algae wafer although it is usually picked apart by my other fish but never fully eaten. Is there a better food that he is more likely to eat?

Do the flakes even reach the bottom? What species is this pleco? What time do you usually feed? A lot of plecs are nocturnal. Have you tried veggies yet?

If you don't see him eating, it is probably because he is nocturnal and will eat at night. Try dropping some zucchini or cucumber an hour after nights out.

I have not tried vegies, the species I am unsure of but it is supposed to be fairly small and it is an albino variety. The flakes do reach the bottom but it is not long before my guppies eat them and the wafer stays there for quite a while. I usually drop the wafer in about 8-10 PM depending on how much homework I have.

How many times a day do I need to feed them vegetables? What kind do they prefer?Won't my other fish eat it first?

Once a day is fine. You could try wedging a lettuce near his cave at night and remove the leftovers in the morning. If you have greedy vegetarians, then chances are they'll eat the veggies as well so it's best done at night where they cannot interfere with the plec.

Peas, lettuce and cucumber are a few I can mention. Read the thread as I can't be typing almost everything again.:headshake2:

alright thanks. The store I bought it from seemed to suggest that it didn't even need the sinking algae wafers =\. I guess I will do more research before buying a fish than asking at the LFS.
