I am in the process of setting up a 55g heavily planted tank. I planted it today and added 3 juvie rainbows. Once it's established, I would love to add a smalled pleco. I just learned of the flash pleco which seems pretty cool but am open to any suggestions. The tankmates will be: 6 banded rainbows, one pearl gourami, 3 upsidedown cats, and 2 featherfin synos. I am also planning to add 6 smaller cories. Do I have room for a small pleco? I don't forsee any compatibility issues but am by no means an expert.

I'd ditch the synos before adding a pleco. These take up a lot of space and too feisty for most fish.

Panaque maccus
Ancistrus sp.
L010a-Hemiloricaria sp.
Sturisoma panamense
Rineloricaria parva
Farlowella gracilis
Queen arabesque
King tiger pleco-L66

That's kind of what I was thinking. They're easy to find at my LFS, cheap, and cool to look at. Is there a compatibility issue btw them and my synos? Could I have more than one if I introduce them at the same time? I would kind of like to have a regular and albino.

I like the L002 (tiger pleco). The only downside to them is they require wood to eat and this causes them to poop a-freakin-LOT. Still one of my favorite patterns on a pleco, though.

All plecos require wood in there tanks to munch on, and all plecos poop a lot.

As the owner of 5 different species, I'm telling you there is a difference. But thanks for the info.

An L002 eats almost exclusively wood. It also poops much more than most plecos. In fact, my 4 inch L002 produces more poop more than my 13 inch common.

If you haven't already, www.planetcatfish.com and www.plecofanatics.com both have tons of info on plecs.

Clown plecs should work in there, and they're pretty cheap too. It seems like most of the pekoltias would work okay, but I'm not an expert. L387 should be okay. They only get to be about 4.7", and they are omnivorous tending towards carnivorous.

L129 has become one of my favorites. Small, great pattern, and primarily carnivorous (easy to feed).

i really like my L-239. he wont get larger than 6" and is a lovely blue color. hes also quite shy. not an inexpensive pleco though and they tend to be finicky and hard to acclimate. if you can get them to settle in and to eat, you are doing fine
