pleco fora 29g community tank

U could get a clown pleco. Also a zebra pleco would be cool. They are amazing looking. Unfortunatly, zebra plecos arent as active in cleaning algae as other plecos.

Hi,

There are a few species of plecos that do good in a 29 gallon and they are: Pretty Peckoltia L103 (Dekeyseria pulcher), Bulldog Catfish L146a (Chaetostoma cf. thomsoni), and Bristlenose Catfish L144a. There are also a few other species too.

Hope this helps.

If you get a clown pleco make sure you have driftwood in the tank. My favorite small pleco is the L260 Queen Arabesque. They only get to be about 3 1/2" so a 29gal tank would be fine. Here is a pic of my L260

sitng ray plecos, also known as hillside loaches, are very interesting bottom feeders, they only get about 3-4 inches long so they make a good fit for almost any size tank. i know they aren't really plecos but they look like it.

Hillstream loaches are actually a cold water fish. While they can live in a tropical tank, They thrive in a cold water tank.

Queen arabesque plecos are carnivorous as well. Get a bristlenose if you're interested in an algae eater. If you're just going on looks, hypancistrus (zebra, queen arabesque, king tiger, etc.), pekoltia (leopard frog), and some panaque (clowns, flash) will work out and not get too big. Go to www.planetcatfish.com and search around the catelog. As stated earlier, panaque species need wood in their diet. Bristlenose (ancistrus sp.) also require some wood.

As an aside, many people mistakenly use the L144 number to describe bristlenose. L144 is the color morph of ancistrus sp. 3 that has black eyes and lacks pigment (appears albino). The "common" bristlenose is ancistrus sp. 3, an as-yet undescribed species. There are several color variants of this (albino, calico, etc.), one of which is the L144. There are literally dozens of ancistrus, and L144 is one of the more rare types. Most go great in 30" tanks.
