Last week I bought what I was told was a Rubber lipped Pleco.
He is just over an inch long.
I put him in my 10 gallon with a male Betta, and three inch long Cardnals.
Silk plants and two live plants, sand bottom.
My heater is in the corner of the tank, the Pleco hides behind the heater.
The water temp is 75 deg.
Is he cold?
Does he just like that spot.
Betta does not bother him, is he afraid of Betta?
Can anyone post links or pictures of Rubberlipped Pleco?
Thanks
Subic

A rubber lip pleco is light in collor somtims about white and they have
big lips sory no pic.
The pleco is"not"botherd by the betta.
pleco like to hide some maby most of the time but shuld eventuly come
out when it is feeding time they relay like shrimp pellets.

plecos like to hide. You should probably make some more caves, get some drift wood and move your heater around.

What's your water temp? I'd be worried about the pleco burning himself on the heater.

thats weird. my rubber lipped pleco does the same thing. i have had him for about a month now and we have since put some caves in the tank, but he is still behind the heater about half of the time. i have the tank at 75 degrees, which from what i have read online, seems to be about the warmest u want the tank to get for them to be comfortable.

Plecos aren't that picky. Just make sure the water isn't too cold.

You also need to keep in mind that a lot of plecos are actually nocturnal. They don't move much in the daytime. Mine is under a piece of driftwood all day until I turn off the light. Then it zips down and starts exploring. If I turn on the lights, back to the log it goes.

Don't worry, its fine.

I have two Common Plecos, very young. One hides on the back of a oranament resembling a brick wall while the other spends all day hiding behind the heater. He hid behind the old one near the top of the tank, and when I replaced it with a submersible heater near the bottom he now hides behind that one. Little guy just likes that spot I guess.

I think there are such things as heater guards. I had a plec that got an injusry to her back, and i really think it was a burn from hiding behind the heater. She healed up after I put her in a q tank for a month, but I made there were more hiding places when i put her back in the regular tank. Afterwards I saw somewhere mention of a heater guard...I think that would be helpful to use too.

i love how you typed up your thread, it sounds like an imagist poem...

on the actual question, yea my friend's pleco does the same thing, but it hasn't been burnt yet... id get the heater guard to make sure, and make some caves..

another option would be to get some driftwood for your tank, plecos love it, especially if algae is growing on it.

I was going to recomend the exact same thing. I know tronic makes heater guards, but I don't know if they fit other brands of heaters.
