I have several questions as I see some really interesing plecos on this site and in books.

I have read they need a tank of 30 gallon plus due to size. Can I put one in a 12g? Are there varieties that are better suited to a small tank?

Do they eat algae or is that a myth?

Most all plecos do eat algae but they won't eat all types, depends on the strain of algae. I would go with a Clown Pleco or even an Otocinclus for your set up. Clown Plecs stay small and Otos max at 1 inch or so. A common plec will get way too large (12-18") so I would stick with one of the dwarf types. Anyway hope this helps and good luck!

There are a few plecos that you could put in a 12gal tank. What do you want the pleco for? Are you looking for an algae eater or do you just want one to look at? If you want an algae eater you could get ottos, snails, or even some shrimp species.

If you just want a pleco you could get a clown, but they need driftwood for their diet. You could also try to find a L260 Queen arabesque they stay small. The Queen doesn't do to much algae eating, but they look really nice.

you shouldn't make the new plecos only diet the algae it finds on the glass/decorations. get some algae wafers and throw one in every 1-3 days, depending on the size of the pleco.

Could a bristlenose or Rubberlip be okay in a 10gal? with just a few other tetra s?
