We have purchased a new tank. We have also bought a potato puffer (Spud) to go in it. He is just under an inch, but, even though he is paid for, he must remain at the shop until the tank is set up. We also want a pleco to eat the algae. How big must the pleco be so Spud doesn't eat it? Thanks- Jamie

Your gonna need a very large tank to keep that pleco

and keeping any fish with puffers is a hit and miss situation. i would go with a pleco thats about 1-2" though, and see where it goes

keep in mind that while all plecos vary in size, your basic common will get around 18 inches or so at max length so the tank size would need to accomodate this. I just unloaded an 18 incher to a friend with a 75 gallon because the 55 gallon was a bit tight for him. Not all plecos get this big though, check out www.planetcatfish.com for different kinds...

there's lots of them, some more expensive and harder to get than others, but well worth it IMO. There are some real beauties out there..... look at planet catfish (the link I posted above) and check out the "L#'s". They're listed there pretty fairly enough.
