You are correct, the record is 14 inches for the largest l-18. The average max adult growth is just below 8 inches, I don't think you really have to worry about them getting to 14. That must be some beautiful fish!

They also have to have plenty of wood in the tank. Mine spends 90% of his time on my huge driftwood peice but will munch on some of the cucumber I put in the tank.
 
Eh, black with yellow spots could also be 007b, the yellow spot variety of vampire or galaxy pleco. Totally different dietary needs, vamps are carnivores that thrive on shrimp pellets and raw prawn. But also a very cool fish to have. You can usually ID a vamp by the long, soft mouth barbels that point straight down when at rest, and the slight hump between the eyes.
