plecos & heaters? (please help!)

cd:

Have you provided wood and rocks with holes and caves for your pleco?

TR

They're in QT right now, so it's a bit limited, but they do have a piece of wood (which they are amazingly good at using as a hiding place, even though it's just a straight stick), a few java ferns for general cover, and part of a broken terra cotta pot that makes a sort of cave. I haven't seen any of them near the heater since that one time.

If you are worried, get a heater guard.

I looked into it, but they are surprisingly hard to find. If you know a good source, please share!

I also have been raising plecos for years and the heater was never an issue, even for the little fry. No need to worry.

I just saw another one wedging himself under the heater, but this time I watched until the heater light came on. The pleco did not move or seem to react in any way, but I noticed that it was not under the part with the metal coils, so perhaps it wasn't very warm where he was. I guess as long as I don't see any injuries, I'll try not to worry about it.

Thank you for being so reassuring, everyone. I really appreciate it.
