I keep a single BN with my tropheus, but thats because I don't have any other catfish in there for clean up. I used to have a syno ocellifer, but I never saw any fry no matter how many times I saw them mating. Now that he's gone, there's fry running around.
Plecos in an African Cichlid tank

Bristlenose or Rusty plecos seem to be what most people have success with, or a common in a truly large tank.
As said already, don't put one in because you think you need one - the 'benefits' of the algae eating are far outweighed by the extra bioload the pleco adds, and there is nothing the pleco does for algae that you can't do yourself.

Personally I haven't had luck with plecos in African tanks. I would spend the money on something like synos instead.

Even If I could have a pleco in an African Cichlid setup, I wouldn't do it, it would look out of place. Like that photoshopped picture of the african cichlids in a really nice heavily planted tank.
I too think the pleco would look out of place. Prefer the synos...
Some tanks are just set up for display and broken down or some folks have the ability to replace the plants...all things differ for each of us.
