Plecos

right now he's not even an inch long. once he gets too big he's going in my b/f's 75 aquarium. But the pet store said that he'd stay this small...

The pet store lied

They stole your money, It's what they do. It will out grow the 2 gallon in less than 2 months. (If you feed it properly and do water changes every 3 days. Yes, every 3 days. Plecos are HUGH waste makers)

take him to your friend's 75 gallon as soon as possible... it will be much happier there, as the larger tank is more likely to have enough algie for it, and will have much more space... the 2.5 is just too small...
also make shure that there is enough for it to eat.. drop in some sinking pellets, or a small slice of cucumber for it, sometimes flake food isn't enough for them.. (then again, sometimes they will live for years on algie alone...)

can you post a picture of your fish or which picture does he most resemble?:
pleco
OR
oto

EDIT: i've had an idea- you might have the wrong name for your fish, this will help us determine

Not a judgment, just a suggestion. If you cannot properly accommodate a fish, don't bring it home. Lack of resources is not a justification for mistreating an animal.

If I couldn't afford to keep fish, I wouldn't have 3 cats.

If someone had told me that 2.5 year ago, I probably would have opted away from a pleco. Then, I would have put him alone in a 55g, but, even at night, he just doesn't move around alot. So, he's got himself a compact apartment and gets treated like a baby. Driftwood, natural algae, algae tabs, zucchini, cucumber, plenty of anacharis cover, and 25x filtering power. He's been just under 12-inches for many months, so I think he's full grown. Besides, I like him, I'm not giving him up. I look for every sign of discomfort, but don't see it. ...fat belly, bright eyes, great coloration....and he definitely goes about his activities when the lights go out. He's just not hyper like most non-pleco fish.

Budgetting for a 180 gallon tank is not something I'd ever want to deal with....nor the weekly water changes. My house is 800 sq ft. :thm:

bigger tank. At least a 15gl i keep mine on 75gls

it really depends on what type of pleco it is, if it is a pleco(see kyle's post). some plecos only grow to be about 5 inches long, which is still way to big for a 2 gallon. if it isn't a pleco and it's an oto, it could only get up to like 2 inches.
a 75 gallon is a nice size for a pleco, it's got a good base size(same as a 90gallon) so it should be happy when it goes in the new tank.
enjoy your new fish!

I think you're right. He liiks alot like the oto fish rather than the pleco. He's brown with the black stripes, but he doesn't have much of a forked tail. My guess is that the pet store might have just misnamed him. Thanks!!!!

You could get by with a clown or bristlenose pleco in a 10gallon MINIMUM. Even the 10 gallon is pretty small, but my brother is a huge keeper of plecos (I belive he has 9-10 now, commons and bigger ones in 2 75 gallon tanks, and in his 2 smaller 10gallons he has 1 clown in each. Both the clowns have lived for over 2 years, and are in perfect health.
