I found a piece of 1" thick plexiglass and was curious if any wood workers out there [I have done it for over 10 years] that would know of a way to cut it in half [thickness]?
Just to clear things up- You want to cut the 1" thick plexiglass so its .5" thick? That sounds impossible. If you were able to do that, The acrylic wouldnt be clear and sanding would take FOREVER.
Here's another thought. If it is cast acrylic, it is worth more than two pieces of half inch material of the same size. Maybe you can use this value difference to barter your way into the sizes you need. If you are using them to construct an aquarium just make sure you are obtaining cast acrylic material.
if you have nothing to lose you could try to cut it with a hotwire...
You could buy a filiment wire for hotwire cutting... Place it on a 1/2 inch spacer and stretch it across a table.. and slide the Plexi through it. like a giant cheese cutter!
I am sure you would still have to buff and shine the finished peices..
What is it you are trying to do with it? I'd build a bigger tank and use the full 1 inch!
