Plumbing size conversions

Hi all! I need some tips regarding my return pump.

I just got my Eheim 1250 today, but the output is a lot smaller than my plumbing. My plumbing is 3/4" PVC and the output is 3/8".

I had a larger pump (the 1260) that I had connect to my plumbing with flexible tubing that fit securely over the PVC and the old, larger output. But now, that tubing is too large to form any kind of seal on the new pump.

What kind of conversion methods have you used in the past that you think might help me out?

Not sure specifically. What I would do is hall that puppy down to the local big hardware store and see what you can find. You can reduce the 3/4" to 1/2" easily. From there you may be able to use a piece of vinyl tubing and hose clamps or tiewraps if submerged to do the trick. Stay away from 'smelly' rubber solutions. You want snug joint solutions don't expect hose clamps or tiewraps to "suck it up".

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a nylon adapter that is 3/4" MPT (male pipe thread) x 3/8" barbed fitting (don't use brass). You may also need a PVC union - 3/4" slipon x 3/4" female pipe thread if there is not one already attached to the existing PVC tubing you have. If not, you will also need PVC cement. The slip on end of the union gets cemented to the existing end of your PVC tubing. The nylon adapter then gets screwed into the threaded end of the PVC union (you'll probably want to put teflon tape on the threads before screwing it in). Your 3/8" tubing then connects between the barbed end of the nylon adapter and your pump.
