Plz help identify

it's a juvenile dempsey. no they are not black, dempseys are able to change from light to dark colored depending on their mood and on the surroundings. my female dempsey changes color all the time. it was first believed that dempseys would only change color due to stress, it was later found out they are actually able to change from light to dark or dark to light depending on their mood, or on the surroundings they live in. the more dark stuff in the tank the more they stay a dark color, the more light stuff in the tank the more they stay lighter in color, this helps them to hide from predators, and to ambush smaller fish.

Not all Dempseys are aggressive, my 4" female is not aggressive what so ever. I've housed baby convicts, and others in with them for a small period of time, she left them alone. Just like with any species of fish, there are some that will be aggressive, and some who won't be. It depends on how you raise it for one, what tank mates it has with them, also what you feed it (live feeders help to induce aggressiveness).

It is a dempsey for sure '' archocentrus octofasciatus'' used to b considered the nastiest cichlid when it was discovered now it is mildly aggressive compared to others in the trade.

thanks all,,but, i'm not second guessing but my JD does not really look like the one in a thread by krytan called "JD take two" I find it looks similar to the firemouth in a thread by vanpudin (i'll try to bump it near the top).
I find mine is more the silver color than the black,,,is that because of age?
