pods

What do you have in your tank right now? For a while my pods ate the detritus in the tank, then they started eating each other. They do eat food that isn't eaten by my fish and larger invertebrates. They sort of cover the food, so I assume they are eating it. I have a lot less now because I've introduced fish that are gobbling them up but I can still see plenty.

well here is the story. I had a 90 gallon tank up for about a year and half. I cant keep up with it so i went with a 20 long. I have a nice hang on refugium for it and all im keeping is 3 leaf fish. the LR was purple then all died about a wk before i bought it off some one. now after 1.5 yrs the purple is returning. So right now i'm cyclying my tank but it shouldnt take more than a wk which was two days ago. I have 3 inches of LS that was all from my old tank and 30 lbs of LR from my old tank. I'll be getting some brillo alage as soon as i find some good stuff.
That was alot but aleast you know where im at in this project.Oh im also setting up a 6 gallon mantis tank that will have a few corals. I figure if i get a good pod population then i might add a madrin.

how does this pod deal seem? http://www.inverts.com/Merchant2/me...&Product_Code=Seapods&Category_Code=Live_Food

Hmmm, my copepods started showing up about 2 weeks after I put the LR in. Then the amphipods were crawling all over the place about 2 months after the good LR was put in the tank. Maybe you'll want to get a little LR from a tank that has copepods, mine just came from our local LFS. I've never bought copepods, but if you end up getting that mandarin you may have to do that. A 20 gal just won't do for making enough copepods for the mandarin to eat.

I don't know anything about leaf fish, I was wondering if maybe your tank inhabitants were eating all your pods, but I don't know what those guys eat!

leaffish well they look like leafs sort of. they eat ghost shrimp. and lots of them. i catch about 100 a week from the bay. Dont think they eat fish since the are realitivly small and I have had them with some other small fish before. If you go to liveaquaria.com they have some. If you intrested in seeing them. I like them cause they arent as proon to some illness like ich. Every month minimum they shed their skin. Any way I wasnt sure if i got a nice grou of pods going in my refugium if that would be able to feed a madrin. Oh i plan on planting the tank with some grass. Either Shoal or manatee. Not sure right now which is best.

For copepods i beleive if you want them fresh you can breed them. Go to this web site
http://www.sjwilson.net/reef/ and i beleive she breeds alot of different things to feed her fish. I havent done this but i will start when my tank gets big enough and i may add a mandarin later, much later. You should do some background research for extra help but this girl done it for years without a problem. If you look around enough youll find her brine shrimp, rotifers, and phytoplankton cultures. See if it will work with pods. And also mandarins will it bloodshrimp too if my research is correct. Have Fun

I bought a large ''ball'' or brilo pad algae and put it behind a big rock in the back corner of my tank, its deff a safe place for pods to hide and spawn without the threat of being food. So I would get a few of those spots since you want to have a large build up of pods for a mandarin. Why is your cycle only going to take one week?
