I've been looking at replacing (actually, now adding to, thanks to the helpful responses here) our current canister filter, and after asking around here, I got a bunch of responses.

I hate going by price on things like this because I feel that not only do you get what you pay for, but you sometimes you pay for more than you actually get.

Appreciate responses on Canister Filter brands.

Although you can select multiple choices, I think it may be more helpful if you pick only one "favorite" (if you use multiple brands). Feel free to add some commentary as to why one vs other, etc.

Ive only used fluvals and Ive not had a problem. Others will say different.

I use RENAs exclusively now, but have used a Fluval in the past and was happy with it.

I am in the camp that says there are 3 choices when getting a canister:
1. Eheim
2. Eheim
3. Eheim

I have a pair of the Pro II 2026. One is running for 6 years with pressurized co2 run through it. The other has been going for about 5 years. Both still run like new.

i used to consider canisters but they were too expensive for my budget. so, now i build my own filters.

Eheim Classics (2217 & 2260)= simple & easy to maintain
Eheim 2028= baskets & pads
Eheim 2229= good for bio only
Marineland Magnum 350= don't care for it so use for polishing only

I like Eheim Pro/IIs for my main Bio-filters, and love the classics for loading up with media, foam, etc. But I still have some Hot Magnums that I use as a poor man's Diatom filter, even without the powder they still do the job.
