I can't figure out how to do the poll thing so I'm gonna do it like this:

hubby wants your expert opinions on how many mbuna (avg. adult size 4-6") you would put in a 55 gal tank.

Please answer his question so he can quit bugging me every few minutes to see if I have found an answer...:p:

Thank you in advance

I'd say 3 groups of 1M & 3-4F, dependent on species. I have seen some great species only tanks too...P.Salusi and P.demonsi being 2.

What you have look's good...They may be alittle cozy once they grow up.....

Well, they'll not all like each other if those N. brichardi pair up and a few fry survive. I've seen them and their ever growing horde dominate much more aggressive cichlids (picture the nice Brichardi family taking up 2/3rds of your 55 and everyone else huddling in the opposite corners)...just something to keep an eye on.

i have a 55 Gal mbuna tank - its posted in the members tank section - as they grow up you will find that they will make enough space so you may loose a few - i had 3 male kenya's that did not go well - one is dead and one is living back at the local fish shop and now everything has been calm for about 2 months i seemed to have eliminated the agression.

Just make sure they have enough hiding places and keep an eye on them as they grow up - as they start to breed things can change over night.

ive got 8 malawi tanks right and at full size with proper filters (which you have) with lots of water changes you should be just fine with the amount you have i wouldnt add anymore unless this is a grow out tank
