Polyfill from the department store

...do you put this in your HOBs? or sumps?.....i have been using carbon filled ones i can get 12 for 10 bucks at my LFS..but if i could get a bag of this and stuff it in my HOBs and get the same affect...that would be awesome

I use it in my HOBs and Canisters.

Yep..have bags of that stuff..for yrs....no issues at all.

JoAnne fabric stores carry bags of it also, if you have one of them by you.
My older bag has the brand name of "Mountain Mist'' fiber loft, and the newer purchase has the name, "Morning Glory" Premium Polyester Fiberfill.

I do believe someone actually ordered it on-line from this store if I remember correctly.
That can be very convenient if you have too far to travel.

Hahaha, I use polyfil for the filters in the lab at college. It's dirt cheap and excellent. We use it in canisters and box filters. Not sure what brand it is, but it's got a teddy bear image on the front...?

so no carbon or anything? just stuff the hob filter with it? ..im assuming away from the propeller ^_^

...aha, I am reassured that I can use Poly-fill from Walmart...of course I will read the info on the bag first...
*Where we used to live near Minneapolis, we had over 300 stores within a mile from home - among Pet-Place, Pet-Smart, therefore, I never had a problem in getting any equipment, when needed.

For carbon just put it in a nylon stocking. I get mine from the wife when she gets a run. Been doing that for nigh on 30 years.

For HOBs, I prefer poly quilt batting. It's flat. Cut double the size of the plastic from an old filter cartridge, fold from top, down under the bottom and back up to the top on the other side. A rubber band around the top will keep it in place.
Looping it this way, that way it will simply slide into the groove on your filter box. When you need to replace the floss, leave about half of one side, inside your new "sock".
