polystyrene & ferrocement pond- build

maybe i missed it, but how did you seal the corners?

really nice. this is a great idea. It would be so easy to build in all sorts of features, like planter shelves, etc.

how thick is the concrete?

also, did you do the bottom?
yeah and you could even build in a filter box that is fed by the bottom drain and/or surface skimmer, and make it so that you can backwash it by using a couple of gate/ball valves.

It has a thickness of about 10mm on the sides, and about 12mm on the top and both sides of the bottom.
Its very strong, easily strong enough to support someone standing on it.

maybe i missed it, but how did you seal the corners?
it has a wire reinforced mortar skin over everything including the corners. I used angled cornering tools to smooth the edges.
Once the mortar has cured I will paint below the waterline with a pond sealant.

Similarly, I want to dig a hole, 12' wide x 12' long x 5' deep, line it with 2" rigid polystyrene, cover this with 2" of ferro-cement...essentially several layers of wire mesh and cement, probably slope the walls as much as 45 degrees toward the bottom center to help counteract force of ground pushing in add drains, skimmer, etc. and finish like a pool. Wouldn't be very expensive and could use as cool little pond or pool. Thoughts?
