polywool---can pillow stuffing be used instead?

Can you guys tell me what the exact name is? I went to walmart looking and could see no info about flame retardants on alot of it, they have cotton batting and all this other stuff. I asked the woman working there and she said "I don't know!" and walked away. I don't want floss, I want cut-able pads, BTW (for my canister filter).
I did buy a roll but I'm a little scared to try it. I have bad luck! Thanks!

most times the stuff is safe. 
i picked up like 5 pounds of it for less than 10 bucks, and i doubt i'll ever have to buy any ever again.
i picked up like 5 pounds of it for less than 10 bucks, and i doubt i'll ever have to buy any ever again.Get polyester quilt batting and you should be fine. Don't get cotton quilt batting, it will rot when submerged.
