Pond Filter on Aquarium

Has anyone tried a large pond filter on their aquarium?
A LFS has a 50% sale on all their pond equipment. I could get a real good deal on a pressurized unit with bio/mech/chem and UV for a large pond.
Do you think it would be to loud? Or do you forsee other issues?

what size tank are you gonna use it for. benifits of pond filters is they are cheap for the size pond they filter but unless your tank is huge probably over 500 gallons its not worth it since you can filter it fine with a wetdry or ehiem for probably the same price. but if you wanna build your own skippy pond filter then go for it its just gonna look ugly sitting on top of your tank

I have a 120 Gal tank I want to use it for. It looks a lot like the Ehiem "industrial" aquarium unit. It is a "canister" unit that I envison sitting behind or under the aquaium.
It has 16 watt UV, Bio/Chem/Mech all for about $150.
My biggest fear is that it would be to loud for indoors.

is it a canister type that you can put under the tank or the overflow kind like more pond filters where you will have to put over the tank. if it would work. sounds like a good idea and it should be strong enough. it shouldnt be too loud i got some strong pumps for my wetdry but i put a blanket under the whole setup and under the pumps and the hoses are wrapped with some cloth so noise is cut down a lot. -john

I've always thought about purchasing a pond pump because whenever I've looked at the prices there seems to be a substantial price difference when the pond pumps are on sale. It would be great if you can keep tell us how loud it is and how well it filters if you buy it. I ended up buying an Eheim which was more expensive than the pond filter I had looked at.

I've thought about this too, and came to the conclusion that you can use the pond filter for indoors. it would be really hard to plumb because of the external pump but if you can get it to work, why not? i think a pond filter would be an ideal combo with a small sump.

Got to be careful as some brand pond filters are constructed really cheap and can leak easily not to mention they can sound at night like a garbage disposal sound during the day.

I was checking out pond canister filters too,Laguna brand.They seemed like the cats meow,but like you I was worried about noise.I run a Laguna 2400 pond pump on my SW tank and Im really happy with it,4 years trouble free.
