Pond filters for aquarium

Anyone ever try using a pond filter for their aquarium? I have a 125 gal tank and was wondering if a pond filter would work as well as a canister filter. They seem to be priced a bit less and woudl seem to have better flow rates and efficiencies.

supposing you have a good biological filter .. yes
theres not problem with using it as a tank filter

Wouldn't the pond filter have some sort of biological filtration in it, or is it all mechanical?

its mostly mechanical due to the rubbsh that falls into ponds.. but theres a small bioload in the filter already

If I am not mistaken the pumps aren’t usually included with the cheaper pond filters. So that will significantly increase the price, and don’t forget you’d have to have the pump in the tank which many might find unsightly.
