Goldfish Fry

Hi There. I had a Koi spawn and the Koi hatched on the second of June and because free swimming four days later. Right now they are about 1/4 of an inch long and I started feeding live brine today. Now they're little digestive tracks are all full of shrimp and a nice salmon colour. In about a months time they should be at least an inch long. You will find that the more aggressive fry will feed on their brothers and sisters.

Also, the adults find them as a tasty snack too. I had a resident Bullfrog that had a taste for goldfish, as well as turtles and dozens of birds.

When my water was clear, none of the fry would survive to adulthood. If the water had less than six inches of visibility, the survival rate was enormous.

I would also try to rescue the fry by netting them and raising them in plastic containers. Even though I gave them the same amount of food as those in the pond, the pond dwellers always grew about three times faster. I have been told that this is due to the cleaner water in the pond.

well i was informed that green water has a lot of zooplankton and all that good stuff that the food for the fry can feed on then the fry will eat them. supposedly green water is good for raising koi and goldfish fry in. i also tried taking a few GF fry in under my care but to no avail. i don't know if that green water stuff is true or not, but it seems to work alright for me. i'm expecting a pretty good spawn from winter so maybe my numbers will jump back up (mortality rate got high from algae killing chemicals....lost my former most precious fish)
