Pond questions

about 1500gal - the bottom is stepped so there are levels at 3', 4' and 5' deep. The deepest step is basically filled with mulm, in what works out to be about a 2-3' diameter circle.

My pond is pushing 13100 gallons, with a 2', 3' and 4' step, the bottom is filled with muck. The frogs hibernate in it and for the past 15 years, it's never had any problems. We use a very primative filtration system, just a pump and waterfall. There has never been a need to check water params, because the pond has never had problems, other than this liner tear, which we caused removing the giant 550 lb lily.

Along with the muck, we have a bog area set up as well. As stated previously, it's its own ecosystem, needs very little human interaction and has never had any problems, even minor ones.

All of the above, dead plant matter, poo, dirt....etc.

Oh ok well in that case I will have muck and need it because this pond will be housing turtles and they need dirt to burry into to hibernate during winter. I'm not positive on if I will be puttin plants in it.

Lifelessform when I dig the hole for the pond should I put sand down before linear or carpet material?

We used sand, but I know of people using both.

Ok, I'll have to figure what I should do. Right now were figuring out where exactly were planning on putting the pond. I thought about putting the pond in our back corner of our yard, but since our yard is so huge running the eletric would be a decent distance and also that area gets more shade then I thought. So right now I think were planning on putting the pond right near our house so your really able to see it look out the dinner room window and your able to hear it/ view it from our deck. Plus eletric isn't a far run from there. Another advantage is that there are no trees near that area so a root from a tree ripping the linear wouldn't happen, which is a plus.

That sounds like a great idea. You know, I really love the fact that I can see and hear my pond from my house. I can look out my kitchen, living room, and bedroom windows and it's right there. I know you'll like the convenience too of being able to have it handy for when you need to do stuff with it. Like haul water.
