A friend of mine told me that he uses pond tablets in his aquarium to keep algae away.
My question is, is this safe? I have a 187L tank and it is suffering from green water and algae, I'm getting another filter on Saturday that will hopefully help but am wondering what else I can do. I've done water changes and covered the tank, it gets no light and i've reduced feedings, nothing is working.

Chemical control of algae is usually a last resort. What are your nitrates and phosphates? How often do you do water changes, and how much? What all is in the tank?

I decided to go with the tablets today, I am sick of the green water!! I did water changes twice a week, then every second day, then every day and nothing worked, I covered the tank for a week and that didn't work, I stopped feeding them and that didn't work. Today I got some more backing paper, put it around the sides, put the tablets in and got yet another filter and I'm hoping by the end of the week I have clear water!!
