Last week I brought home a sick betta. He had a bad case of pop eye. I work at a pet store and a customer brought him in to see what was wrong with him and what they could do for him. So I told the customer it looks like popeye and at first i showed them melafix. When they saw the price and said that's a little more than I was going/wanted to spend (he's just a fish). I showed them other medicines to treat him with. But they decided that it would be cheaper to just buy a new betta. So I ended up bringing him home with me. I've had him for just about a week. I'm treating him with maracyn tc. Monday is the last day of treatment. His eye looks just about normal now, other than his eye being a little bit hazy. He's in my biube now. I have a question...... does it really matter what kind of heater I get? I know I should have gotten a heater earlier and I know this sounds horrible to say...but I wanted to wait on the heater to see if he was going to make it. I have to be honest...I didn't really expect him to make it, he was really sick. But he's starting to be more active. I know there is a heater that the biube company makes that I could order. But If it doesn't really matter I can just get one from work. I felt so bad for him. I didn't really need another fish let alone set up another tank lol

You can get a neat little submersible heater at wal mart for 5 bucks, its for 2 to 5 gallon tanks. I bought several of them and they work really well in my Betta tanks

I have no advice on this, but I just wanted to say what a sweetheart you are for taking on this poor fella. I've only had a tank since December, and I don't know what I would have done without this board. In fact just today people here helped determine that I have a clawed frog, vice a dwarf. Which explains the disappearing fish.

My husband feels the same way as your customer, "they're just fish" it's really nice to find a place with other people who realize what wonderful creatures they all are.

Well the tank he's in is a biube which is a 9 gallon cilinder (sorry for the spelling) tank. I'll probably end up getting a 50 watt heater. Thanks for the advice FluffynTex.

krzyklwn, Thanks for the compliment. lol i've now got 5 fish tank, 3 of them being betta tanks lol. What kind of fish do you have?

Thanks Jm1212. I think he's going to pull through. I'll be sure to look for a try marineland's shaterproof heater.

I'm so glad there's happy news for the little guy. Well done!

And yes I hate that too --> "it's just a fish"

Well good news. His eye is back to normal now and he's been more active. Tomorrow is his last treatment then Tuesday I plan on doing a water change.
I'll try and post his picture sometime this week. If I don't get the water change done Tuesday would it be ok to wait to do it on Thursday instead? I know the medicine package says to do a water change after treatment. I have off Thursday. If it should be done on Tuesday I'll just have to do it before I go in to work. You know he still doesn't have a name. I've got 2 other betta and their names are: Charlie (my betta) and Pretty Boy (my mom's betta) lol. Any suggestions guys? I'm horrible at thinking up names.

How about Popeye ;)
