I didn't change very often before, it's only within the last 6 months or so that I've noticed it having poor flow. I think the filter is just going bad, either the motor or impeller.
Anyways, I was looking at Aquaclear filters. It's a 3-stage filter with foam, carbon, and biomax(?) filter, whereas my old power filter only had a biobag for carbon and a foam filter. I basically ended up never adding carbon beyond the few pkts that came with the filter, as I read it's not really necessary and a good way for companies to make $$, so ended up using them as straight filters. Never noticed any issues with fish over the last 8 years doing so, though I only stock hardy fish types. Do people change the carbon/biobag in the Aquaclear filters regularly, or don't bother?
