Hello! I'm new to this site and I think it's absolutely wonderful! I noticed a few days ago that my betta,Indigo, had a bit of swelling just below his right eye. I figured it was either an injury of some sort or a possible tumor. Today when I got up, I noticed that his eye was swollen and his face under his eye was rather swollen as well. I'm assuming it is popeye so I began treatment with a combination of Maracyn-2 and Melafix. I have been doing partial water changes daily for the past week due to a spike in ammonia so I don't think its dirty water. He is still quite active but he won't eat, probably because he was moved from the 10 gallon community tank to his one gallon hospital tank. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their betta and if their face was swollen as well?

Here are some images. It's his right eye that is affected.

Welcome!
I really appreciate you coming to the site and asking!
A lot of people just let them die.

Never had it in any of my fish, but according to this (http://www.fishlore.com/aquariummagazine/dec07/fish-popeye.htm)

You need to

Dose 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt per 5 gallons of water

Change the water a lot

Take out any new tank decor that you may have just added.

They also recommend Maracyn for it, if it's a bacterial infection, which, I have no idea how to differentiate between.

I personally would recommend a tank for the fish, water quality is what started the pop-eye (if that's what it is). Your betta will keep getting disease or infections until it has a tank with filter and heater.

I would suggest a combo of Maracyn and Maracyn 2. And lots of clean water Brittany.
