Popular belief and RED ALGAE Cyanobacteria

Update.

Well it has been a while now, not much has changed in the last couple of weeks, there are still traces of cyano about, but just in the dark areas. The back left was scraped about 2 weeks ago (I don't usually clean the back), but nothing has grown back there. Where there is green algae on the back glass was all red, and the sand and rocks were covered. I also changed the bulbs in the 55watt unit at the back, it has 4 in total 2x10k and 2xactinic (these are true actinic. 420nm I think) that eliminated the rest at the back.

Hi noskimmer,
Very interesting and thankyou for it.
I also have had an apauling outbreak of cyano and would not want to take a picture. I run a skimmer although without it on my tree coral looks fantastic but with it off my xenia closed down. the cyano suddenly appeared over night and has been present since.
I have tried water changes, phosphate remover, attivated carbon repositioning of the powerheads reduced photo periods yet nothing works...
Just realised after reading your post that my lights have been fitted for about six months :wall: i'm off to the lfs worth a try i'll let you know.

very intreasting read. I also dont run a skimmer and I think as long as you keep up with your maitanace you should be set. Im also in the process in upgrading lights via retrofit. Should be intreasting to see the diff from PC to MH's
