Based on my community below, does this seem too much, just right, or can I throw in a couple of surface dwellers?

NO! you are are already over stocked- while these guys are still small you're probobly O-K-A-Y but 3 of those fish are garanteed to out grow your tank, and a number of them are single specimens of schooling species- they really should be in groups

read their species profiles and then see if you can return some. fillout schools, and if you're dead set on the big ones be ready to buy a much larger tank in the near future

Fair enough. I'm buying a house soon and plan on getting another (much bigger) tank, so a few characters will move (the Asian, in particular). Who, besides the tetra, needs a family?

The small upside down cat (nigriventis) really prefers to be in a school. Right now I have only one, and I basically NEVER see him since he hides in the driftwood holes. When I had 4 of them, they encouraged each other to come out and play. They are nocturnal, so don't expect to see him much anyway unless you don't provide hiding spaces for him.

I hope to have 10-15 of them together in a large aquarium one day.
