I have a porcupine puffer that seems to have gulped a small amount of air (the size of a marble). It is lodged near his tail on his right side. I have tried burping him underwater but he gets so excited that he puffs up to the max and can't seem to get rid of the bubble. I would have thought the air would have headed upwards out his mouth but that isn't happening. Any other options??

If you can see the buble near his tail it's most likely a nitrogen bubble from when he was captured not air that he's gulped. Never try to assist them in removing air from their bodies! "Well unless it's bobbing like a cork on top of the tank." The puff up is an extreme fear reaction they don't do it unless they are on the verge of death. Often times puffing up will cause a great deal of injury to the fish.

Well luckily I left him alone for 2 days and it disappeared. I guess he took care of it on his own! Good luck to future people with this problem. It will probably take care of it's own like mine did.

i dont know if this would help but i have heard of this happening with fish before and like max says its a nitrogen build up and what i have seen people do is stick the fish with a syringe and then remove the bubble like that. Seems to be perfectly safe for the fish since they go on to live long after that.

glad it worked out for you...did you take pics of him at all?
