I know that convicts spawn as easy as male + female + water = babies and I know that they tend to lay eggs in pits dug in the sand if a cave is not provided. My female convict has begun to dig a little pit. Should I be expecting a spawn?

Not really. She is staking out her claim to attract a mate. They will lay eggs anywhere, even stuck to the glass. Just means she's getting ready, now it's up to a male.

I gotcha. would it be horrible of me if the eggs manage to hatch and I just let them be eaten? Because I don't have the time/space/means to raise fry.
