If you can see this ..I have about eleven of these on my glass now, and they look like starfish, but I count more than 5 segments. Most are six segments. I had a starfish 6-8 mths back that didn't make it. He was a sand-sifting star, so I am puzzled about the glass climbing guys here.
Another thing is the Nitrate ONLY level problem I am having. I have a 30 gal FOWLR with a HOB penguin filter, and I guess I am going to get a protein skimmer.
What is the maintainance like for these, and how effective are they for this Nitrate problem?

You will have more... I get new ones every once in a while.

As for nitrates, a PS may be fine, but I run 0 nitrates without one on a 10 gal. Don't overfeed and get a good clean up crew and plants. This has worked for me.

Glad it was good news on the starfish

I have thought of plants, but will my yellow tang eat them? And to change the bulb for plants will I need to replace the fixture as well, or do they fit universally, like flourescents do ?

when my tank was first started the lr was growing some kind of plant but when the tangs were added the rock was picked clean within 24 hrs!!whatever it was they loved it!!

and...i'm also finding baby starfish these are white in color but they look like a tiny brittle star and there are alot of them they are everywhere...????

Don't know if it will eat them, but it would have to be a hungry fish to eat that much!

I have a tangle of kelp on my rocks that is about three inches thick by the depth and height of the tank. I have to cut it back weekly to keep it from overtaking more than it's assigned area. It helps with nitrates and also provides hiding cover to my emerald crab and pencil urchin.
