Post Pictures of your Non-Planted Tanks

This is my Venezuelan/Columbian Blackwater Biotope:

All plants in here are fake, either plastic or silk. I use a peat extract so I don't have that tea coloring from peat filtration.

I really want to try that leaf litter Blair, but I'm fairly crowded already with fake plants, maybe I'll take some out, and replace with the litter.

Nice tanks everyone!

I'm really interested in the leaf litter tanks. Is it normally just for cichlids or could you put just about anything in there?

Hi Dave - if you read the thread in the link I posted earlier you can read about what type of leaves I recommend, how to prepare them, why we boil them and also the answer to your question - in short, it's safe for any fish that will also tolerate driftwood in a tank.

Oak leaves release tannins, just like driftwood. They also leach humic acids - the result of which is a minor increase in acidity ie a slight pH drop can occur, depending very much on the KH of the water - lower KH will see more of an effect on pH whereas with a higher KH where the water is more able to absorb an acid without becoming acidic, the difference would be insignificant. It's a gradual release too, so nothing happens too quickly.

We did chat about it a bit on the CF where I provided that link, there might be more info there which I forgot to mention.

Blair.

Thanks for the info. They look very cool. Very natural. I may try it the next time I do a tank. Everything is very stable right now. (Knock on wood) I don't want to do anything to screw it up.

Some things are hidden/hard to see, but that's pretty much it. 12g eclipse.

Deco wise that cave is more of a tunnel, the lighting is just weird in this pic (but it's still the clearest I could get of it at the moment DX). There's a few shorter green plants behind the red ones, and the bubble wall goes almost all the way across the back, I bent it up instead of letting it go under the filter intake or it would have reached all the way across. XD

Not too fancy, but it works for me. :nilly:
