Today I saw something at Petco which made me laugh and cry all at the same time. I'm sure many of you have seen it, but maybe we can all have an informative laugh by posting all of the other crap they try to sell to people in this hobby.

The product? How about bottled betta water! Yes, bottled water marketed for use in betta bowls. Will the wonders never cease?

Of course not, because a few minutes ago I came across this: http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp18567/si1381569/cl0/hikaribettaultimate08oz

This stuff is miraculous! Would you believe they finally came out with a product that eliminates chlorine and chloramine, and even claims that it detoxifies ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? Why haven't they thought of a product like this before? And for only a dollar I can treat five whole gallons!

Not to mention the fact that it boosts alkalinity - a nice refreshing change that a betta will really like as compared to the soft, acidic waters from which its species originates.

Share some more of these gems!

One of my "favorites" is the almost fluorescent gravel they sell in petstores as "designer gravel". If I were a fish and lived in a tank with that stuff I think i would be continually stressed...would even try to find a way to commit suicide.

detoxifying nitrite ammonia chlorine and chloramines isn't much of a stretch. Salt will make nitrite safe... most water conditioners will take care of the chlors... I will agree that it is a bit of stretch with its packaging and marketing blurb.

I can't find any at the moment but I like products that claim they eliminate the need for regular maintenance/water changes.

There are some truly hideous ornaments out there. Do betta bowls count as ridiculous? Because they should.

eh, air pumps are still borderline with me. They still do create minimal surface agitation... and look pretty.

haha, I forgot about water clarifiers... can I throw algae killing chemicals into the mix? Sure, they may kill algae... but they may kill everything else too.

How about the block vacation feeders? little bits of food in what looks like chalk, tell me that won't screw with your water parameters with a straight face...

Don't forget the infamous Rock w/ purple string. ;)

Here's a beautiful product. Not for fish tanks...but still a fantastic invention.

Someone beat you to this one Mg!!
