Alright, I'll play
I started keeping fish on a whim - my first tank was a birthday present. I quickly realized that something about the tank really fed my soul, made me happy, and I've been addicted ever since. Over the years I've kept everything from big predators to tiny community fish, and after a while I decided to try something a little more complex; I got into planted tanks and became fascinated by the chemistry. When I told a fellow LFS worker I wanted to try a nano reef, he told me 'chicks can't do reefs, and no one can do a small reef as their first'. So I started a 14g reef tank to prove him wrong. I got hooked by the reefing bug, converted some of my FW tanks to SW, and finally realized what drives me: since I was a little girl, I've wanted to live near the ocean. We're landlocked here in Toronto (okay, we have a lake, that doesn't count) and some part of me feels more complete when I'm surrounded by water. I can sit very close to one of my tanks and dream I'm snorkling on a reef, all it takes is a little imagination. No God complex here, just a desire to recreate a tiny piece of the ocean I can't be near.
