DD, that was exactly the point of that topic. I was going to try to explain why getting an advanced degree in fish biology does not make one a better fishkeeper because the objectives are totally different. In fact, one can have a Ph.D. in ichthyology and not know the first thing about the nitrogen cycle!

I was a rocket scientist once. I've sort of morphed into a mad scientist. That doesn't really help you but I thought I would interject it nonetheless.
cool! I've definitely seen more of the "mad" part coming out in me lately, mostly in the sense that I'm horribly unorganized! :D

I thought the chinese were always organized..... ;). don't worry, plah, it's just a sign that you have a great mind. all good scientists are as organized as a doves nest!

ok, hmmm.... I think either direction you go with in number 4, you are going to get opposing views. Some will think it's better to have and only the best keepers will carry a degree, some won't see that it is needed and can do quite well without one which from what I understand is the avenue you want to take. I'm not trying to be difficult, really, just trying to see it from all ends. I guess it comes from working in the environment I do, I need to look at things in the future from all ends and nip them in the butt before they are laid out on the table. The rest of it though, I think is great and a good idea.

At first I thought really bad idea (sorry!) I think everyone has an interesting personal story, and this is not really the place for that kind of thing. (and if everyone chimed in, it would be very long and detract from out purpose here)

However, I like Dangerdoll's additions to the plan. I think if you make it an educational article about what you have learned and how you have learned it, and leave out personal opinions and controvercial subjects. I bet you have great field trip stories... then again I think all of us who have gone on college fieldtrips have terriffic stories!

Anyhow, a thumbs-up from me.

Maybe some sort of list of all of our specialties could be a good idea. (we all have them) At least when I had a rocket science kind of question, I would know who to track down... like a professional networking kind of thing.

so I decided against writing both articles/stickies. I'm too scared about the possibility of controversy, since most things stated would be my own opinion. I guess I'll just make casual threads about the two topics in GCC.

I still need to write an article on General Fish Feeding, that I've been thinking about for months. As well as get going on my species profiles. Sigh, my "homework" is never done :o
