placed pothos plant in a hang on filter assuming it will remove nitrates (picture attached),till now no roots have been developed. It is almost close to a month since the plant stem dipped in filter. Please suggest.

Roots only develop from the nodes (points where leaves also grow). Trim and have at least one node submerged.

What are the nitrates? Pothos are VERY hungry plants. Without enough nitrate in the water, it might not get enough to live.

Finally, how is it being lit?

I would cut off the old brown leaf joints, you need to get to a healthy "leaf node" to get good root growth. Cut it cleanly just before a green "node". You seem to have too much old "stem" to create roots.

You should start seeing rootlets from the node within a few days of cutting.

That might not be enough light...depends on if it's south facing or north facing.

Good point, Sheila! Pothos are fairly low light plants but they need some. East or west may be ok too; north maybe not.

How high is your light fixture? It looks pretty low but maybe the leaves are under it?

Under 20-10ppm nitrate might not be enough.
